 DESCRIPTION & SCHEDULE:

 

We are very happy and grateful to be able to host Andrea for her first visit in Zagreb. Inspired by her knowledge and energy we decided to invite her to come and share with you some of the main principles of traditional Ashtanga Yoga. Andrea will cover the main techniques and will explore different ways to experience these strong tools.

 

On Friday there will be a led class in the traditional Sanskrit counting followed by a short introduction of the main aspects of Andrea´s teaching. On Saturday and Sunday, Andrea will offer personal support in the Mysore classes. After a break we will explore in depth and detail the Asanas of the Primary Series with their physical and energetic alignment. The Breath and the Bandhas will be accentuated, what will help you to increase your core strength and to refine your practice. You will learn how to use weight and gravity to find more ease and lightness. You can progress your inner strength what allows to release all unnecessary tension in the body and in the mind. In the theory part Andrea will talk about the energetic body, and about the importance of a holistic approach in practice and in life.

The workshop is open to all levels of practitioners. Experience with Ashtanga Yoga is required to have a safe and joyful experience.

 The workshop will be taught in English.

 

ABOUT ANDREA:

 

  Andrea started her Yoga practice in 1986 and developed since then a long-term and committed relation to Yoga. She studied for more than 10 years Yoga in the tradition of Shivananda and Iyengar until she met in 1997 her first Ashtanga Yoga teacher. Immediately she was fascinated by this challenging tradition and is practicing daily since then. 

Her Ashtanga Yoga practice is mainly influenced by the „old style” teachings of Sri K. Patthabi Jois, carried by her teachers Nancy Gilgoff and Manju P. Jois. With both she is closely connected since more than 12 years. She travels the world to teach and study and since 2006 she travels every year to Maui for a long study trip to refine her own practice under the direct guidance of Nancy Gilgoff.

 

In 2009 Manju certified Andrea to teach traditional Ashtanga Yoga, Pranayama and Chanting. Recently she finished the 'old' third series and she completed the syllabus of Pranayama (as taught by Sri K.Patthabi Jois). 

 

 Since more than 30 years she is studying different ways of moving and healing the body and mind. Besides her studies in different Yoga traditions, Andrea has a profound background in in Physiotherapy and Alternative Healing (“Heilpraktiker“), she is a II Degree Reiki practioner. For many years she was fulltime active in performance art and dance.

 

She sits regular Zazen and you can also find her practicing in the Aikido Dojo.

 

Her love and deep interest focuses on the transformational aspects of the practice and the possibility to develop a higher level of awareness. Consciousness and compassion are main aspects of her teaching.

 

Andrea founded her own school, the Ashtanga Studio Berlin, in 2005, where she is still teaching daily Mysore classes. She travels through the world to expand her horizon and she is teaching workshops and retreats in Europe and Japan.
